05 Feb Biochemical imbalances make treatment difficult!
Managing clients with eating disorders and obesity is a tough job! Its made almost fruitless without addressing the biochemical imbalances they are experiencing because of their condition.
Good mental health, behavioural change and emotional reframing rely on restoring the body’s ability to produce and react to a plethora of chemicals and hormones. In eating disorders and obesity the production and uptake of these can be severely damaged and without nutritional education the road to helping people with these conditions is a long and endless one.
Blood sugar imbalance, serotonin and tryptophan production, sex hormones and thyroid health are some of the major issues we see in clients with obesity and eating disorders like anorexia and binge eating. While treating the behaviour and emotions of these conditions is critical, we also need to delve into the what, when and how they are eating to assess the biochemical and neurotransmitter imbalances going on. Learning how to investigate and support your client with biochemical imbalance doesn’t need a chemistry class, but an understanding of what these factors are, how they occur and how to apply them in each case.
Health professionals who encounter eating disorders and obesity in the course of their work can learn these skills with our Nutritional Interventions for Eating Disorders & Obesity course and help make recovery for their clients more successful, build a more effective health team approach for eating disorders and obesity and have you thinking deeply about your own biochemical issues, your personal relationship with food and nutrition for good mental health. Win! Win! Win!
