08 Aug Conference advocating a merge of Obesity and Eating Disorders treatment confirms ACFED position, and we love it!
This week I am in the Gold Coast, Queensland at the 4th NATIONAL EATING DISORDERS and OBESITY CONFERENCE.
While catching up with previous participants of our Obesity and Eating Disorders courses has been an added bonus of the conference, I am particularly enjoying hearing the discussions on approaching the treatment of Obesity and overweight from different perspectives including academics, researchers and clinical practitioners.
One of the most inspiring messages of day one was the opportunity that we might be missing to bring the treatment of Eating Disorders and Obesity into the same space. If anything it reinforces the work we do here at ACFED by offering our courses on Eating Disorders, Obesity treatment, Nutrition and Prevention.
You can see all our courses on our website but today’s message is to reinforce that our 3 day Psychological Approaches for Obesity course teaches health professionals specific skills in treating Obesity by addressing the practical and psychological factors these clients may be experiencing, including barriers to change and the individual nature of effective treatment.
Our next courses are coming up and in particular our Melbourne course is approaching the early bird price closure next Monday 14th Aug, where you can save over $200 of the price.
3 Day Psychological Approaches for Obesity = 21hrs CPD
Melbourne, 11th to 13 Sep 2017
Sydney, 4th to 6th Dec 2017
Auckland, 26th to 28th Feb 2018
Perth, 12th to 14th Mar 2018
We advocate a non-diet approach and concentrate instead on equipping people with skills and solutions they might need to increase self efficacy and autonomy. Our approach encourages individuals to reject weight and shape goals and to concentrate instead on health behaviour change and body acceptance.
